The Strategic Land Group, one of England’s leading independent land promoters, is seeking a Land and Planning Assistant or Manager to join our team. We operate across England and Wales from our head office in central Manchester, working on a range of residential and renewable energy projects.

Over the last 15 years, we have worked alongside local authorities and our landowner partners to promote sites through local plans for residential development. Our projects range from a handful of homes to significant urban extensions. More recently, we have begun working on renewable energy projects too, helping landowners to deliver commercial-scale solar farms.

When we say our focus is always on quality, we really mean it – from providing a quality service to our landowner partners, to producing high quality development proposals that deliver more than the bare minimum, and providing quality support to our other team members. Quality sits at the heart of everything we do.

You will be working to identify potential new development sites by directly targeting landowners, building relationships with land agents and visiting sites. You will support our managing director in appraising sites, preparing offers and negotiating legal agreements, and help keep landowners up-to-date on our progress. That means you will need to be an excellent communicator.

The planning system is at the heart of what we do, so you should understand it well enough to be able to identify and assess potential development opportunities. That might mean you have, or are working towards, membership of a professional body like the RTPI or RICS but that isn’t essential – you might have learnt through experience or an academic qualification.

In choosing new team members, we place more importance on you as an individual than we do on your technical skills – we can teach you those if we need to. As a small business, we can tailor the role to your particular strengths and your particular level of experience, whether that is a little or a lot. You might already work in strategic land, but you might work in immediate land or at a surveying practice and be looking for a new challenge. Perhaps you work in a planning role at a local authority or consultancy but you think you’d enjoy a more land-focussed role. Maybe you’ve only recently graduated and have been looking for a land role. We welcome applications from anyone who is excited by the prospect of working with us on strategic land projects.

We offer a range of benefits to our employees, including a minimum of 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, flexible start and finish times, hybrid and flexible working, auto-enrolment pension and support with professional fees and CPD.

We are an inclusive workplace that values diversity, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

If you are interested in this position, please email an original cover letter and CV including details of your experience to info@strategiclandgroup.co.uk to apply.
