As the Planning Bill draws nearer, those who are keen to protect the status quo are raising the same myths and half-truths about the housing crisis and the need for planning reform.

Oligarchs, empty homes, interest rates and land banking developers are variously blamed as the cause of the housing crisis, while the planning system is painted as being free from blame.

In his latest piece for Housing Today our managing director, Paul Smith, points out that none of those issues can explain the ever-rising housing prices that we are seeing - but there's plenty of evidence that our restrictive planning system is playing an important role.
