That thought process typically leads to the conclusion that developers should be penalised if they don't build homes more quickly. Often, this means so-called "use it or lose it" planning permissions, an idea that resurfaces every couple of years.
Unfortunately, however, the concept is built on flawed assumptions. As a result, it certainly won't work and could possibly serve to reduce housing supply - the exact opposite of what is intended.
