Shortly before Christmas, the government proposed a number of changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), many of which related to the delivery of new homes.

Among them was a new requirement for the right homes to be built in the right places - a truism that we can all get behind.

Yet while the proposed new NPPF is very good at explaining where the wrong places for new homes are, it does't give us much guidance on the right places.

The result is likely to be a dramatic reduction in the supply of new homes.
