Anti-development politicians and campaign groups are already lining up to oppose the Planning Bill announced in this month's Queen's Speech - despite now knowing what will be in it.

Assuming the intended planning reforms are fairly close to those trailed in last summer's white paper, they would be a vast improvement on the current system. At the same time, they're not anti-democratic and they wouldn't be a "developer's charter."

In his latest piece for Housing Today our managing director, Paul Smith, explains why it is important the Government stands firm in the face of opposition, rather than quickly giving way as they did in the debate over housing targets last year.
